In a short time, the Arab American Society of Cardiology has made a significant impact on its members and the broader cardiology community. Some notable achievements and milestones include:

  • Growth of a Thriving Community: From a handful of organizers in 2023 to over 200 members by 2024-2025, AASC’s rapid growth underscores the demand for such a community  The society has successfully connected talents across different career stages, truly living up to its mission of shaping futures.

  • Academic Contributions: AASC members have distinguished themselves through research and scholarship. At the ACC.25 conference, AASC-affiliated cardiologists and trainees delivered an impressive 75+ research presentations – a testament to the community’s academic productivity By providing a network and support, AASC likely contributed to the visibility of these projects on a national stage.

  • Mentorship Success Stories: The society’s mentorship efforts are yielding results, with many Arab American trainees securing prestigious fellowship positions and excelling in their early careers. AASC’s webinars and guidance for the fellowship match have been credited with helping applicants succeed in the Cardiology fellowship Matchinstalker.org. The community celebrates when its junior members match at top programs or win scholarships, reinforcing a culture of lifting each other up.

  • Member Recognition and Awards: AASC actively celebrates the honors earned by its members. Recently, two AASC members – Dr. Subhi Al’Aref and Dr. Obada Aqtash – were named among the “Forty Under 40” young leaders in cardiology across the U.S.instalker.org. This recognition, bestowed by a leading cardiology business publication, highlights the excellence present within the AASC community. The society proudly announced this achievement, noting how “incredibly proud” they are of their members’ leadership in the fieldinstalker.org. Such accolades showcase the caliber of professionals involved in AASC and provide role models for the next generation.

  • Clinical and Academic Competition Wins: AASC members have also shined in cardiology competitions. For example, an AASC member (Dr. Raja Zaghloul) led a team to victory in the ACC Fellows-in-Training Jeopardy competition at ACC.25, representing the Missouri Chapterinstalker.org. AASC publicly congratulated this win, emphasizing pride in the community’s achievements. These wins not only bring individual distinction but also put a spotlight on the contributions of Arab American cardiologists in nationwide forums.

  • International Collaboration – Connecting Diaspora: While AASC is an American-based society, it has naturally become a bridge between the U.S. and the Arab world in cardiology. The society has welcomed and supported young doctors from Arab countries who seek experience in the U.S. or attend conferences here. Notably, at ACC.25 AASC hosted medical students and interns from Jordan, who traveled to Chicago to attend the conference and even present research  AASC leaders took pride in seeing “young Arab minds” crossing borders to take part in global cardiology exchanges. By facilitating these opportunities, AASC contributes to global knowledge sharing and helps integrate international graduates into the American cardiology community.

In summary, the Arab American Society of Cardiology has quickly established itself as a vibrant, impactful organization within the cardiology landscape. Through its focus on mentorship, networking, and recognition, AASC “connects talents and shapes futures” for Arab American cardiologists. The society’s initiatives – from annual gatherings and educational webinars to newsletters and research collaborations – have created a strong support system for its members.
