Programs and Initiatives

AASC has launched several programs and initiatives to fulfill its mission of professional development, education, and community building. Some of the key activities include:

  • Mentorship & Career Guidance: AASC places strong emphasis on mentorship for aspiring cardiologists. The society organizes mentorship programs and webinars to help those applying for cardiology training. For instance, AASC hosted webinars for Internal Medicine residents applying to Cardiology fellowships, offering interview tips and application advice. One recent session – the society’s second such webinar – invited a panel of expert cardiologists to provide exclusive fellowship Match 2024/2025 tips and answer candidates’ questions These mentorship webinars (often advertised with the tagline “Applying for Cardiology Fellowship? This is for you!”) have become invaluable for young doctors navigating the competitive fellowship match process.

  • Networking Events & Annual Meetings: Networking is a cornerstone of AASC’s activities. The society formally gathers its members at least annually, often coinciding with major cardiology conferences. The annual dinner at the ACC Scientific Session has become a tradition, growing each year. At ACC.25 in Chicago, AASC’s inaugural dinner brought together over 100 attendees as noted, and similar meet-ups are expected at future conferences  These events allow members to meet face-to-face, form friendships and professional connections, and discuss collaborative opportunities. AASC also encourages regional meet-ups and collaborations among its members throughout the year, strengthening the professional network beyond the big conferences.

  • Research Collaboration & Academic Engagement: Given the strong academic focus of many members, AASC actively promotes research collaboration and scholarly activity. The society provides a platform for members to share research ideas and find collaborators within the community. The impact of this is evident: at the 2025 ACC conference, AASC members collectively presented over 75 research posters and presentations on various cardiovascular topics AASC frequently highlights member research achievements via its communications – for example, when a member publishes a notable study in a journal, the society will share and congratulate the accomplishment. In one instance, AASC proudly spotlighted an innovative research publication on valve interventions by one of its members, emphasizing that the society is very proud of its community contributions in research By fostering these academic connections, AASC hopes to facilitate multicenter research projects and elevate the contributions of Arab American cardiologists in the scientific community.
